Selecting segments of mesh and making solid

Hello all,

I have a large mesh, and I need to print a small segment of it.

I have figured out that I can position a cube at the segment I need to cut from my mesh, and use the Meshsplit command, but this leaves me with just the outside “walls” of the model (there is no fill and therefore no way to print it). These 3 sided meshes need to be closed, but I seem to be unable to even snap to the corners. I was trying to close them off and “rebuild” them as boxes so I could print them.

Is there an easier way to do this? Am I anywhere near being on the right track for removing portions of meshes and sending them to a printer without them being 3 sided “hollow” shells?

Thanks!

Hi Nick -

To snap to meshes, you need to enable the Vertex snap.
I’m not sure how closed you need these to be. Perhaps you can use the DubBorder command to get the naked edges of the mesh. Then draw straight lines between the lower corners of each opening of the tunnel, and use the curves to create planar surfaces that you then turn into meshes and join with the tunnel?
