Hi,
is there a way to filter families based on subcategories which they include?
I have tried to use categories filter with show subcategories option enabled,
but it doesn’t work that way.
Thanks…

These get into a grey area of Object Style/ Subcategory.
What Elements are you working with and what versions of Revit / Rhino are you using?
Here is an example of my elements. I use Rhino 8 and Revit 2025. I would like to export rhino model to revit for ifc export. Each surface would transform into 1 family, representing 1 ifc entity. I would like to group and filter families based on subcategories for easier parameter manipulation.
Do you have an example of what is not working for you?
Note that ‘Subcategories’ like these are actually Object Styles (they’re actually graphical overrides that control how different categories and subcategories are displayed) and will not work in Element Filters
Ok, so there is no other way to filter families based on subcategory they include? Then maybe i can add a parameter representing subcategory to this families and then filter them based on this parameter? I will try this way then. Thank you for your help, I’m not very proficient with Grashopper yet…
If things Object Styles/Subcategories are being used consistently you can get the info from the Geometry of the Element like so…
How about if I want to select all the elements which include geometry in subcategory Abutments|Abutment Piles for example?
That’s great, thank you so much!
