Sectiontools (R8) issue placement point and layernames

For a new project we are checking the possibilities of Sectiontools Integrated (Rhino8) again. We have used it several times on other projects and run into a major issue - but is miraculously solved (link).

Currently we got some new challenges with Sectiontools integrated:

  • the sectiondrawings are stacking on top of eachother after making a change to the clippingdrawings settings; I can reproduce this issue by selecting multiple clippingsections and I change the setting from background=no to a background=yes. Result is that they are all inserted on a single insertion point. Important to mention that I do not use the “ApplyToAll” function in this command.
  • I am not totally sure who to blame (lol), but after above failure, some objects (curves/hatches) were still located at it’s original position. Therefor I deleted all clippingdrawing objects and purged the layers. All layers related to the clippingdrawings got deleted (I checked) and I created the clippingdrawings again. I did not delete the clippingsections! I immediately run into the issue that the command line was not showing which clippingdrawings I was placing. Nevertheless, once I placed these clippingdrawings somewhere, the layers of each clippingdrawing were called “Layer 01”, etc. I am aware that deleting and purging the original clippingdrawings are somewhat unconventional, however I thougth that this would give me a fresh start for placing the clippingsdrawings. My next step would be deleting the clippingsections and start all over again (which is not preverable do to the settings per clippingsection.)

I hope above workflow is clear, otherwise I am happy to clarify the steps in more detail.

Looking forward to your tips/tricks and hopefully solve these issues soon, thanks in advance.

UPDATE on the second issue.

I openend the drawing as normal this morning, all looked the same as I closed the file yesterday. I run the update all command of Sectiontools and the clippingdrawings with the “Layer 01” etc. are now showing the correct naming!

Glad that one of my issues is solved

UPDATE on the first issue.

We can reproduce this issue:

  • select multiple clipping sections
  • change, for example toggle between background off-on, a setting,
  • confirm/enter
  • repeat these steps until all clipping planes are modified

Workaround:

  • select multiple clipping sections
  • change, for example toggle between background off-on, a setting,
  • set “ApplyToAll” to yes
  • confirm/enter
the clipping drawings remain at there placement points

Alternative is to apply changes to the settings for each clipping drawing, i.e. not selecting multiple clipping sections, but one at a time and apply the changes.

This is a workaround and to be honest, it feels more like a bug. Hopefully this can be fixed in the next SectionTool update.

Thanks for those steps to reproduce this issue.
I’ve put this on the list as RH-87454 Section Tools: EditClippingDrawings Throws Drawings Together
