Scaling Dots

Just spoke to Jerry at Tech Support about this. Was having trouble scaling dots on my layout page. Help file says that you can change their size in their Text Options. This does not seem to work though. Talking with Jerry, we stumbled on to the Text dot font size pull-down under Non-scaling objects in the Linetypes and Line Widths panel on the Print dialogue box. This worked, but their is no mention of this in the Help file. And… why would it be listed under Non-scaling objects when the Help file says they are scaling??

Hi Cosmas - Dots can be scaled in their Properties once made, or in the Dot dialog as they are created - any of that work for you?

Hey Pascal,

No, that’s what we discovered with Jerry. The only way they seem to be scalable is through the the Text dot font size pull-down under Non-scaling objects in the Linetypes and Line Widths panel on the Print dialogue box. Changing the Height in the Dot Properties box doesn’t seem to have any effect. The Text dot font size pull-down in the Print dialogue box overrides it.

Thank you.

When you print out a pdf - that’s when you realize the dots have not changed…

@Pascal, did this make sense?

fwiw i can’t get anything printable either and the properties seem to make no difference

I am dealing with this same issue. Seems to be with version 8.6? It’s been acknowledged by some devs in various help tickets I’ve seen. There is no “text dot font size” option in the “non-scaling objects” section of print settings anymore which was how things were resized previously. I’ve seen Steve Baer mention that they’ve changed things so the dot text print size is dictated by setting the dot “height” in properties. As you’ve written, this doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Is there any news to it?

This is how it is supposded to look.

here is the Print preview:

Even diffenrt size od the dots they get printed the same.

They also dont react to enable or disable layout or model spacing!
Is that behavior wanted?

Quite easy to reroduce. 2 different sized test dots. Disaply and print difference…

I use newest build of Rhino 8.

For printing you have more control if you use text with a capsule instead of texdots.

@martinsiegrist Thanks a lot!

I am getting into GH as a Layout tool and really start to enjoy.
User texts, layout & spreedsheets!

I think i got lucky with my point of time for diving into it without the need of plugins or coding!

Just a quick question how to you prefer to create the “fake text dot” on the object.
Do you use a simple text or a dimension of some kind.
Location is centroid.

Try the Grasshopper definition in this post…

Everything works except one detail. You currently need to change the ‘Mask’ setting to ‘Solid Color’ manually.

Thanks again.

I can produce everthing, but somehow it always overwrites those 2:

  • Model space scale
  • Unchecks - Horizontal to view

I got no clue how to get around it…

It tells me under styles _ “remove overrides”
Where are the overwrites coming from?
Is it a bug or am i missing something?

Text entities seem to ignore the Model Scale.

How do they dare :japanese_goblin:
