Saving as SKP

Hi,
We are having issues across multiple PCs in saving a Rhino 6 file as an SKP. The problem cited is a plugin failure. The file is much smaller than is others we have recently converted and has no bad objects etc. Is there an issue with the plugin?

What service release are you running?
Are there any more details to the error message?
Can you describe the objects you’re trying to export?

Nurbs surfaces.
Message : the file-writing plugin failed
Need to check release but have updated in last month

Okay, that helps a bit.
Are you trying to save the SKP file on your local computer or on a network or remote location?
If the latter, try saving the SKP file to your local Desktop.

Any luck?

Sorry for delayed response - still not working and tried saving to the desktop. Service release is newest available.
File size is only 70,000 KB.
A few colleagues are having the same problem and need to resolve fairly urgently.

Solved - thanks John. Found a polysurface that wasn’t saving out - can explain why but now working minus that anyway.

@Mary_Pike
Any chance you still have a copy of the file with a bum surface in it?
When Rhino hits bad geometry, it should be nimble enough to detect it’s bad and skip it, maybe with a command line warning, instead of failing silently.
We would need an example like yours that causes the problem.

Thanks

Hi John,

Please see attached.

It’s not a finished piece just a placeholder but I couldn’t see much wrong with it - maybe I’m missing something? Other colleagues are having issues with saving to Sketch Up with file sizes that had been working up to a few weeks ago.

I’m not having any problems saving that as SKP.
I am running an in-house build that will eventually produce V6 SR20.

What Version and SR are you running?

@Mary_Pike

Are you running V6 SR18?

I tried again and I actually was able to save out an individual post but not the full 6 - they are all copies of each other.

I am running v6 and the service release just says ‘newest available’ when searching via properties

@Mary_Pike |
If you run About Rhinoceros from the Help pull-down, the Version and SR number are above the large “Rhinoceros” word.

Can you Zip and upload a file that exhibits the problem?
If it’s large or sensitive, you can use this link.
Set the Recipient to tech@mcneel.com
https://www.rhino3d.com/upload

Or you can use some other Cloud based file sharing option if you prefer.

Where can I find the SR no?

From my last reply:

I already heard back from the developer.
If you zoom in on the little bases of these posts, you see some screwed up surfaces in the corners.

That is what the SKP export tools are chocking on.
It’s a mystery why one post exports but several do not.

If you fix these screwed up surfaces they should export without complaint.
