Savanna 3d x Visual ARQ

As I look at seriously implementing VisualArq into my architectural workflow, Im looking for reviews on the “Savannah 3d” add on. Thoughts on the performance/quality of 3d models provided?

Hi @Denzel_Hill Denzel, the Savanna 3D add-on it’s a library of 3dm files. You import the blocks into your model as you would do it with any other 3dm file. You can download some blocks from a demo version here: 2.1 Get around 40 Rhino 7 blocks for FREE from the SAVANNA3D library

Thats cool… me more about them, especially pertaining to the customization of the assets. I think I saw that.BIM attributes are beat into these. Would that be correct?

Yes, you can turn these objects into VisualARQ objects or add data on them so they become BIM objects. Take a look at this video. The sample model comes from the Savanna 3d library:

You should include the models with VA3. That way all the hard work you put into the models would get used. I think some people who paid would be miffed at first but would get over it. I paid for them and wouldn’t mind if they were made free with VA3.

The models themselves are really good. Sometimes you have to fiddle with the textures but it only takes seconds. You can look at how they made the model and learn from it.

I had complained about the models being hard to find/organize. You can’t tell what it is just from the file name. But the trick (if you can even call it a trick) is just to set your folders up so that the files are shown as icons (Large or Extra Large icons in windows). If you have a second monitor (or just a large monitor) you can easily browse and take advantage of the ability to “drag 'n drop” into Rhino. So basically just using the Window’s explorer works better than, say, AutoCAD’s laggy block insert dialog. This might be obvious for some but it took me a while before I figured it out. It works with most of the files but not all.

One of my own personal goals is to create a generic model set, mostly consisting of relatively basic objects (and relatively low memory usage). VARQ is popular with custom/luxury designers so a lot of the furniture reflects that.

@keithscadservices The Savanna 3D library is a product by McNeel Miami. If we included it to VisualARQ by default we should rise the price of VisualARQ. For that reason, we prefer to offer it in a bundle just for the people interested.
