Same geometry appears differently in different files

Hello,

While working between two different rhino files I’ve noticed that the same geometry appears differently in each file – one darker and one lighter. The objects use the same material, they are the same dimension, each file is using the same viewport setting with the same edge color, shadow color, etc., and in both cases their cast/receive shadow settings are on, the lighting (sun, skylight) settings are the same, and they are both valid geometries.

To test the issue, I created a new 5m square open box at the origin of each file and exported them – the one created in the “light” file still appears light, and the one created in the “dark” file still appears dark. When copying the geometry from the light file into the dark one it becomes dark, and vice versa.

Is there a view setting I may have changed without knowing? Or is there something inherent to each file, even traveling along as I export the geometry into a new file? In both cases I am using Rhino 7. The “dark” file may have been created in Rhino 5 or 6 (not entirely sure) and I believe the “light” file was created in rhino 6.

Both files are attached, along with the viewport setting I’m using. It’s very strange to me, let me know if you have any insights.

Thanks!

I’m also noticing now the size difference between the two files. Is it possible there is Vray plugin data traveling with the “dark” file? If so how can I purge it?

I’m also wondering about this!
@wim any thoughts?

very strange

When I opened the “light” file, all of my other files turned “dark,” and once I copied the 5000mm box into the “dark” file, I felt a lightness in my chest. My chest cavity was created in Rhino 5, but the remainder of my physical form was created in Rhino 6. Perhaps it’s a tolerance issue.

Hi @Ben_Erickson ,

The difference is due to the gamma value set in the Rendering panel.

If both are the same settings, the results will match…
