Ring Design with Grasshopper

Ring Design with Grasshopper

The design of each ring was created to learn the various functions of Grasshopper in an educational institution, so it referenced existing design cases. Therefore, commoners do not have any ownership or copyright in the design elements except algorithms.

You can freely download and edit these algorithms to learn grasshopper or create your design. Not necessarily, but I would be glad if you let me know these were helpful to you.

You may need to install some additional GH Component Packs. Please refer to the following article.

😊 I will occasionally upload new algorithms because there will be GH classes at least until the end of this year.

😂 02-Gem-Railing: Occasional errors (Sweep 2 Component) when opening files in Rhino 5. (Rhino 6 is fine!)

😂 10-Cube-Packing: GH File loading takes a long time due to Solid Union Component.

I used Keyshot 6 to render them.

I apologize for what might be a simplistic question. I’ve been hand-making jewelry for a while, but only within the last two months have I used Rhino 8 for designs. I downloaded your Grasshopper files, but when I opened the Weaver Ring Design, there was nothing to modify, and I didn’t know enough to get started. All of the necessary components have been installed. Can you advise me?

Hello Michael Opipari,
I believe the version of Rhinoceros I used for this project five years ago was 5. I suspect that the differences between the versions of Rhinoceros and Weaverbird I was using at the time and the ones you’re currently using might be causing the issues.

I just saw your message and haven’t had the chance to open the project from back then, but I’ll take a look and get back to you with feedback.

Hello,I hope this message finds you well. I apologize for asking such a simple and beginner-level question. I would like to download the Grasshopper file you created, but I am having difficulty locating it on the linked website.
Could you kindly let me know where I can find the download link?
Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hello, いとみ,

I sincerely apologize for forgetting to reply to your message for over a month, despite promising to do so on November 25th.

First of all, the reason the link to the requested file did not work was that our design studio’s website(commoners.co.kr) underwent a revamp, and the corresponding page was removed without my noticing it.

To address this, I have attached the requested data as a ZIP file to this message. If you encounter any issues downloading the attachment, please do not hesitate to contact me via email, and I will resend it to you directly.

If my memory serves me correctly, during that period, I was using Rhinoceros 5.0 along with compatible Grasshopper plugins such as Kangaroo, LunchBox, etc.

Back when the page was originally posted in 2019, and even up until 2020, I frequently used Grasshopper for my work. Although I still use it occasionally for specific tasks, I must admit that my familiarity with it has faded over time. This means I may not be able to provide you with detailed answers as confidently as I’d like.

Nonetheless, if you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to me at the above email, and I will ensure my response doesn’t get delayed like this time.

Although Christmas has passed, I hope you have a wonderful end of the year and step into 2025 with abundant blessings.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Jeeyong Shin

Dear Mr. Jeeyong Shin

Happy New Year!
I hope 2025 brings you great happiness and success.

Thank you for taking the time to reply during the busy end-of-year period. I have indeed received the Zip file. I will take the opportunity to study it thoroughly. I truly appreciate it.

Thank you very much.
If I have any questions, I will reach out to you again.
I truly appreciate your support and guidance.

Best regards,
いとみ。
