Rhino6 6 "freezing" when changing material color

Has anyone else had this problem? Sometimes when I try to change the color of a material in the Materials Panel, Rhino seems to freeze. I click on the color swatch next to Color, Gloss, Refl, or Trans and all I get is a Windows system “ding” sound.

I’ve found that I have to hit the [alt] key and then the “Select Color” menu pops up. It’s not consistent 100% of the time, but happens sporadically.

Hi Mike - can you please run SystemInfo in Rhino and post the results?

Hi Mike - is there a Rendered or a Raytraced viewport active when this happens? Your video drivers are a bit old as these things go - you might check the Notifications panel (Panels menu > Notifications) and double-click on the one about drivers, and update. Nothing else jumps out at me here…

-Pascal

Yes, one of the viewports is either Rendered or Raytraced. Nvidia says there is a new driver for the GTX 970, but it’s their “Gamer Ready Driver”. Any idea what the differences are between the “Gamer Ready” and the “Creator Ready” drivers?

Hello - Can you tell if the problem occurs with one or the other, or both?

I do not know about the drivers, I’m afraid.

-Pascal

I will keep an eye on it and get back to you. As I said, it happens sporadically. I hadn’t payed as close attention to which shade mode I was in at the time.

It sounds like the color picker dialog is coming up behind the Rhino application window.
Alt brings it forward. The ding happens when you click outside the current window that has focus.

That what I was suspecting. Any ideas what’s causing it to pop up behind Rhino?

I think the old display driver is the most likely cause, but that’s a guess.
If it were me, that’s what I would try next.

Here’s a link to a driver from May 9:

Don’t install the “Experience” tools for gaming.
Click on the Advanced options and choose a “Clean install”.

Any better?
