Weird Crash when setting Solid Color

Hello. I encountered a weird crash today. I am trying to set the background color for the ghosted shading. I click on the color, the color menu appears for a couple of seconds, then disappears and rhino freezes indefinitely.

edit: the crash doesn’t happen when setting the color through display properties

Here’s the screenshot

i have a dump file. please send a link

You can zip up the .dmp file and upload it using our upload tool. It will go to tech support, from where it will find its way to a developer.

done

I have an exact same problem, reported some time ago. You tried to blame my ancient AMD card but Adel’s card is a different brand and different level so there’s maybe something else.
PS I had a trouble setting the background for rendered mode but ghosted does the same thing.

We won’t know until we see a crashdump.

RhinoCrashDump.3dm (1.7 MB)

That is the 3dm file, the dump file (ending in .dmp) is required. If you get the crash reporting dialog you can send it in through that.

I just looked in the dump file sent in by @adel.albloushi .

@curtisw this looks to be a crash inside WPF - is this something you can look into deeper?

You need this one?? Nothing else is found on my system.

No, if you have already closed the crash reporter dialog the dmp file will no longer be on your system. Otherwise it would be on your Desktop.

Not really much to go on here unfortunately, the crash dump shows that it crashes when WPF is running its modal loop, and just getting the next message via user32.dll’s GetMessageW. It might be a good idea to look at the Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application to see if anything is getting reported there when this happens.

Otherwise, there’s nothing I can suggest here other than making sure you have all of latest Windows and driver updates, or try running Rhino in safe mode to see if it has something to do with a plugin.

Same crash happens in safe mode
Nothing gets logged in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application when rhino crashes

I do have all the latest windows updates and the latest nvidia studio driver
