Rhino WIP Feature: PushPull Workflow

I’d like to have the ability to select any direction, in the same way we can hit “d” to change it from ortho mode while extruding edges or surfaces.

Really nice improvement by the way! Much appreciated!

That seems reasonable. I opened an issue here.

Have you tried the _PerspectiveMatch command in Rhino?

Found some bugs playing with the PushPull:

i did try this in past but it did not work at all. do yoy have experience with that command that it works reliably??

@cadmaster As far as I can see that works as designed.

What are you seeing as a bug here?

Remember that push pull is different than subobject selection and manipulation.

push pull extrudes in or out and combines the coplanar faces. (you can also use the extend options)

sub object selection and manipulation moves OR extrudes faces.

Different tools for different results. (albeit subtle)

I see a visual bug at 10 seconds into the video. Maybe that is what is being reported.

The same in SketchUP:

this seems like an undesired output here… SU essentially creates a non manifold edge where the new extrusion meets the original surfaces. That you’d have to go back and fix later, if you did in fact happen to catch that it was made badly to start with.

thoughts?

You are so adorable Kyle, thinking than SU users know what a non-manifold is, and that they would ever fix anything :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

yeah, I try to keep the inside voices…inside…

there is a very good reason we don’t “just copy how ________ (insert name of any other software company) does it”

Well, here’s the deal: if for V8 you guys don’t get:

  • fillets to work better that Solidworks
  • vectors and fills better than Illustrator
  • subDs better than Blender (with plugins!)
  • Surfacing better than VSR
  • rendering better than Octane
  • UV unwrap better than RizomUV
  • Layout better than Indesign
  • Everything better than Autocad

Also I want a brand new UI, that’s just like Adobe + Fusion + Sketchup + …Zbrush!

…Otherise, I’m NOT giving you the $300 upgrade for the next few years, because I already paid $300 for V7 3 years ago, and you guys STILL have not surpassed the entire software industry in term of functionality and UX!

Have a great weekend everyone!

yes… lets go with that-

You only need to worry when they STOP complaining (old manager wisdom).

I actually like Rhino’s approach here over the one used in SketchUp, because it keeps the open polysurface exactly what it is. Your screen capture also showed that Rhino has alternative tools to extrude the face similar to what SketchUp will do. This gives the Rhino user an edge as there are multiple options and it’s up to each individual which tool he or she will use to achieve the desired result.

Push/Pull feature is outstanding.

I really like that it can be used on curved surfaces as well.
I may have missed it, but the only think I would consider adding is possible the ability to chose a push/pull direction.

throw the new inset command in the mix too… fun stuff!
