Rhino WIP crashing constantly

Hi, I’ve been using WIP for a few months now. It has been crashing frequently for the past few weeks… constantly for the past couple of days. Seems to crash in various situations with the crash window having appeared only a couple of times; I have submitted reports.

Today it’s crashed a few times after repositioning tools in the toolbars…with some sessions only lasting 2 or 3 mins, then the cursor freezes for a few seconds and Rhino closes abruptly.

Here is my system information:

It happens to me right now! just trying to opens views menu and crashes without crash report!

Happening all the time! I’ve only been using WIP for the last few months - thinking of switching back to v7 for a while…

Hi Sach -

From a quick look at the information from the crash reporter, it looks like the Iris GPU is being used when you run into this.

You should look into the NVidia settings to make sure that that is always used, also when running on battery as you are.
I’d also check if the crashing goes away when the KeyShot plug-in is disabled.

Thanks Wim. Do you know how I can configure Rhino to always use the Nvidia GPU. I have set Rhino to use it in the Nvidia control panel like this:

Turn off the Hybrid mode and the laptop would work only on Nvidia card

Thanks @huss191998

What is that control panel? I have access to my NVidia control panel from where I have requested Rhino to use the Nvidia GPU (as image posted above.)

@wim

crashed yet again. Just picking a surface and rotating…

@wim
…and again. This time I mistakenly clicked and dragged an icon over and it just froze.

Have you tried disabling Keyshot to make sure this is not the possible cause of the crash?

Yes, I have. Thanks

Just happened again when accessing the mouse-wheel click pop-up menu…

It’s crashed another handful of times… just rotating, picking, navigation

@sach I think we fixed this crash internally just yesterday. Here is a build of the Rhino 8 WIP from today. Please test it out and let us know if the crash appears resolved.
Thanks
Steve

Thanks @stevebaer

Will give it a spin and let you know.

If you do get another crash, please submit the crash report again. I found your recent crashes and they look an awful lot like something we just fixed.

In later versions of windows, the setting is managed by Windows and NVIDIA control panel won’t work.

@stevebaer
Just happened again spinning around selecting objects… no crash report window came up…

More detail. I expanded out the ‘group’ icon tray and it crashed when I picked one of the icons from the tray.
