Hello Rhino community
I want to introduce a new plugin called Rhino Slicer. I developed it because it was the thing I was missing in Rhino plugins.
Rhino Slicer is a compact plugin, designed to streamline slicing tasks in Rhino 8. It focuses on predictable output, fast interaction, and a clean UI. The tool generates contour curves and auto‑scaled numbering suitable for fabrication and documentation.
I use it for laser cutting, CNC milling and plotters, but hopefully other people discover other useful means, tell me if you do.
What Rhino Slicer does
-
Contour slicing
Supports Breps (including trimmed surfaces), meshes (polyline slices), and SubD (via Brep conversion). -
Auto‑scaled numbering
Text scales dynamically based on slice size to maintain readability. -
Numbers in single stroke font
Saves time in cutting. -
Auto numbering by slice
Each slice gets a number, if more curves in one slice, they will get the same number, for easy assembly. -
Rectangle generator
Each slice receives a proportional frame, useful for nesting or technical drawings. -
Matrix and on-object preview
A clear overview of all slices in a single window. -
Real‑time conduit
The preview updates instantly when adjusting parameters. -
Sorted in layers & color
Output curves (black) in Cut layer, numbers(red) in Mark layer, rectangle(blue) in Rect layer.Technical notes
-
Trimmed surfaces are fully supported (RhinoCommon handles trimming internally).
-
Mesh slices are polylines; conversion to NURBS is maybe in version2.
-
SubD slicing works via
SubD.ToBrep()and curve joining. -
Open surfaces produce open curves; handling is included.
-
Rhino Slicer uses the contour method. Maybe add sections in version 2.
you can download Rhino Slicer here, it’s free.
Tell me if you like it, tell me if you don’t.
