With just Rhino loaded (no file open), I show 413 MB used by Rhino.
If I open a new file using the default “small objects - millimeters” template, Rhino uses 687 MB.
How much memory does Rhino use when you make a new file using a default template?
Hi Akash - hopefully you meant 3MB…? A large starting file size has always been there on Mac - I think a high resolution preview image was thiought to be it but I think there is more to it- I’ll see what I can find out.

Nope. His Activity Monitor screenshot shows 3 GB.
Is the bloated new file loaded up with unused things that Purge would remove?

I’m down to 1.3gb after @Gijs helped me clean some left over test toolbar.
that seems more reasonable. [rhino restart still keep it in 1.3. but that is perhapa ok ].

Hi Akash - what is your template file size? Do you have image files as textures in there or something?

1.3 still is super large. I wonder if you have some gigantic hdri images loaded in your template. I’m puzzled why deleting the toolbars would have any effect on file size though.

I don’t think I have any HDR in my template … at least not by intent.

The template file size seems normal for Mac.

Perhaps try disabling all third party plug-ins; close Rhino and then open Rhino?
with all 3rd party disabled I get 1.15Gb… it is still more then expected but It’s not a problem RAM wise as I have enough .
Edit : RAM is slowly climbing [on an empty file] now it’s up to 1.65gb. so there’s seems to be a memory leak or some other strange issue.
Can you try opening a new file using one of the templates which ships with Rhino?

I get 1.7gb with an empty small mm template .
BTW. even with no file open [the application is on but all files are closed] I still get 1.5gb … so looks to me, unrelated to files and templates.

after an hour [of doing nothing with a file one box and with default template] memory is up to 2gb.
I’ll try tokeep it open to see if it continues to climb.
- after another hour it’s up to 2.15 so defiantly climbing .
Happy to report that after updating to 8.8 SRC . an empty rhino is now down to normal 600+ MB .
the fix for my issue was perhaps accidental…? but it’s great anyways.
