On the office we have the Rhino 7-licenses and the Rhino “5 upgraded to 7” licenses in the (LAN)Zoo on the server so everyone can reach the licenses.
Lately we notice on two PC’s that the license is not being freed after closing Rhinoceros 5 or 7.
The problem comes when the Zoo says that one PC has 2 licenses open and trying to open “another” Rhino program, then the Zoo says that no license is available anymore (while we can see on the Zoo that there are licenses available).
Just checked the Zoo version: zoo_7.0.20307.16001
Right now we can solve it by opening the Zoo and “recover” the license which is being held by the user I am talking about.
Tried it on my own PC, same type and specs PC as the other user, and nothing strange happens, all works fine.
Have you ever checked the task manager to see if a Rhino instance is still running in the background? It happens occasionally for us. Ending the task (after confirming that all Rhino sessions are closed) may solve this for you.
Dan is on to something here. After closing Rhino, open TskMgr and see if Rhino is still running with no UI. These “Zombie” Rhinos will keep the license. Generally a plug-in is having trouble shutting down.
Thank you all so far, the ZooDiagnostics did not show any error, with connection speeds of 1ms.
When it occurs again we will check the TaskManager and revert it here…
I don’t think this problem has anything to do with the LAN Zoo.
I think this is a problem with individual Rhino installations and plug-ins not closing when Rhino closes, leaving a Zombie Rhino running in the Task Manager.
The Zoo Diagnostic tools will be of no help in figuring this out.
Hello, i’m having this problem too. For some reason, even after turning off the laptop where the license is occupied, the license is not freed. I’ve check on the task manager but the license still won’t get free. What should i do?
UPDATE:
After opening and closing multiple times, somehow, the license is free.
I think there should be a way to know if a license is freed, maybe a notification or something in the ui, because the only way to access this information is by entering the administrator account (at least as i’m aware of)…
