Rhino Inside Crashes Revit

Hi All,

I am looking for help with Rhino Inside Revit, it is currently causing Revit 2024.3 & Revit 2025.3 to crash with the below error message.

I have Rhino 7 (7.36.23346.16351) & Rhino 8 (8.15.25013.13001) and Rhino Inside 1.27.9121.7152 installed.

I have 2 scenarios where Revit crashes when trying to open grasshopper from Rhino Inside.

Scenario 1: Revit 2024.3 using Rhino 7 in Revit Inside - Revit crashes with above error when opening grasshopper from the ribbon or from Rhino window.

Scenario 2: Revit 2025.3 using Rhino 8 in Revit Inside - Revit crashes with above error when opening grasshopper from the ribbon but grasshopper loads if I open grasshopper from with Rhino window.

In both cases Rhino opens up from Rhino Inside tab.

I have tried the following things so far:

  1. Unloaded 3rd party plugins from Revit, I tried using Rhino Inside today after 6 months, it was working properly last time I used it.
  2. Read the Revit Journal file to identify an issue, extract from journal below.

I would really appreciate if anyone is able to help with this.

Thank you.

Hi Gurpratap,

Is there a opportunity to send in a Rhino.Inside.Revit crash report? The screenshot above is a Revit dialog.

Please run systeminfo in one of your Rhino versions.

What method are you using to unload 3rd Party plugins from Revit?

The initial take is a plugin conflict, typically its a Revit plugin but there are cases where a GH or Rhino plugin could be involved (Enscape?)

Hi Japhy,

Thanks for your reply.

Not sure how would I obtain the Rhino.Inside.Revit crash report?

I disabled the 3rd party Revit plugins by removing them from this location -\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2024

There are some in - ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2024, I only removed one recent one from this location which was a result of installing another software (Spacegass).

I don’t have Enscape plugin.

We should disable these for troubleshooting, go to File>Properties>Plugins and disable all 3rd party plugins. Restart Rhino for the settings to take effect.

I tried disabling those addins and resulted with the same error.

This time I also noticed that message in the Rhino when opening grasshopper, image below. After removing the highlighted package, it prompted for another one next time, even after removing all the packages in the libraries folder I ended up with the same result.

I removed the packages by renaming .gha to .gha1

We need to get everything in the cleanest state possible (where you are booting properly), then add back in.

Lets try opening a new session of Revit with Ctrl+Shift option…

Thank you for your help.

Unlaoding Sofistik 2025 Grasshopper plugins (stored in Program Files > Sofistik) using GrasshopperLoadOneByOne solved the issue, but if I simply disable them in document properties, it causes the same issue.

Tried running grasshopper with Revit addins, and it works when not loading Sofistik 2025 plugins.

Is there a way to not load those specific gha files without using GrasshopperLoadOneByOne everytime? I tried using GrasshopperIgnorePlugin but it seems that isn’t working.

Their plugins are probably in their install folder, sharing the .rhp location. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to contact Sofistik about resolving the conflict, if your desired workflow for their software in Revit as well.

https://docs.sofistik.com/2025/en/rhino_interface/installation.html

I don’t require Grasshopper Sofistik addins to run within Rhino Inside. Standalone Rhino & Grasshopper work normal with Sofisktik addins loaded. Not sure if there is a way to not load the specific gha files from Sofistik install folder by default.

That is a feature request we have for the Package Manager, to have the ability to target a host such as Rhino.Inside.Revit / Revit version. This is currently on the docket for Rhino 8.x
