Rhino Freezes Following Update 2020 - Please Help

Following the update installed four days ago, Rhino 6 frequently freezes my whole laptop and is not consistent with a specific action. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, updating and isolating the drivers and still no luck. After looking through this forum, there is some advice suggesting to disconnect my secondary monitor. However, the problem still occurs when there is no secondary monitor.

Is there anyone who can help? or suggest avenues I may look into?

I’d update your video drivers first…

Hi Helvetosaur,
Are you referring to the AMD Radeon R7 M270 (AMD) Memory: 4GB, Driver date: 8-6-2015 ? My device manager says it is the latest update however, I have downloaded Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.1.3 Optional and that has updated my driver to AMD Radeon R7 M265 Series.

I will test whether this has worked with Rhino and see how it performs with a nice new 2020 driver.

I’d update the Intel driver as well if possible.

Also, Rhino 6.22 was released yesterday. Maybe update to that as well to rule out any issue with 6.21.

Apparently, this is the most up to date version as my laptop is 2.4 GHz not 3.0 GHz which is compatible for the 2020 version.

Following the update of the AMD Driver and over three hours of use, it appears to have solved the problem (I may regret saying that). Thank you for your help.

Note to self: Do not trust the automatic update of the drivers… always check the latest on the manufacturers’ website.

This is pretty much a Golden Rule in Rhinoland.

The second apparently is:

If you are experiencing Rhino issues and you suspect a Windows Update has taken place, start there and check whether your drivers have been gratuitously set to something old/unexpected by MS.
