i got the same thing here - got a new old thinkpad x250, also with 5500 hd - newest drivers (February 2018)
I open a file and get a freeze after a minute of tumbling the view. Latest SR, no info from other SRs as the laptop is new
but there is definitely something up - the laptop is a fresh install of windows 10
edit: i can reproduce the freeze when i run Zoom Selected - not every time, but 80%
Hi @afiya2900 and @wim
The card itself is from ‘14 and I believe it has reached end-of-life. It seems the 2015 driver is the latest one available and with the increased OpenGL requirements from V6 and how unstable (or miserable, rather) some of the older ATI cards were/are, it might be a bit of an uphill battle getting it to work.

@afiya2900 Are you confusing “memory” and “disk/SSD”? If your primary or only “disk” is an SSD with less than 5 GB open then you may be encountering a lack of disk/SSD space.
Hi, I got the same problem, but I can’t turn off the GPU tassellation, cause it freezes just after 2-3 seconds, and I don’t have the time to navigate the options panel. Any suggestion?
Same problem with safe mode. Now I’ve installed a Windows Update, and graphic drivers updates. Rhino now opens, and I can work for a couple of minutes, then the screen get black intermittently and all Windows get stuck (not even possible to open the Task Manager). Here my settings:
Vendor Name: ATI Technologies Inc.
Render version: 4.6
Shading Language: 4.60
Driver Date: 12-6-2018
Driver Version: 25.20.15002.58
Maximum Texture size: 16384 x 16384
Z-Buffer depth: 24 bits
Maximum Viewport size: 16384 x 16384
Total Video Memory: 4 GB
Yes I know. it is possible to download both (intelgraphics and amd) from intel website:
Anyway, I also tried dowloading from the AMD drive updater, but the latest version is exactly the same.
Actually the issue seems that when I open Rhino6, Windows automatically restarts the graphic drivers every few seconds (like when you use windows+ctrl+shift+B), and I don’t know how to disable it.
sorry, I have no further clues. Since you have different hardware than the OP, it’s maybe better to make your own thread. Or maybe someone from mcNeel staff can split off this thread for you.
