Rhino Crashing to desktop, No error box

I am working on a large drawing.
It keeps crashing.
It’s happened at least 10 times today.,I only had about 2 error reports.

I have updated Everything that needed it,Including BIOS

I thought it may have been dropbox so put the file on my desktop,Still crashing
no errors showing up in audit.

i have disabled the secondary display adapter as the driver is so old and HP don’t seem to update it.

I see four Rhino V6 crash reports in the system. I’ll see if I can find a developer that can have a look at them.

Hi,I am on 7

Your UK address is an alias in your login account.
There are no V7 crash reports.
This is an indication that Rhino may not be what’s crashing.
Since V6 was crashing while Zooming, this could be a display driver crash.
A developer is looking at the V6 reports we have.

so…i am confused.

Is it saying v6 crashed today?

i accidently opened a backup and it opens V6 by default,But i closed it.

The developers can not look at crash dump files they do not have.
Perhaps you can ZIP the most recent one on your desktop, and send it to us using this link:
https://www.rhino3d.com/upload

Send it to tech@mcneel.com
Describe what you were attempting to do when Rhino crashed.
Also include a link back to this forum topic.

Thanks

So far nothing back from the developer looking at the crash reports we do have.

Ok.
Uploading

Thanks

The developer says, “It looks like some sort of .NET related crash. I would make sure he has checked Windows update and see if it is telling him to update anything.”

You can also force a .NET fix using the Windows Control Panel tools. Select Rhino 7, click Change, and use the “Repair” option.

Don’t be surprised if this required a reboot.

Thanks John,I will give it a go.

@John_Brock
All good,Seems stable now ,A repair was what was needed.

Thanks for you hlep

Although it is much better i am still getting the odd crash(1-2 times a day)

latest .Net error

the three most common problem that cause this,

  1. graphics card driver needs an update (custom/advanced install option>clean install)
  2. windows update needs to run (sometimes more than once)
  3. .Net is screwed up and needs to be repaired (google .net repair tool)

Thanks for that,I will try the .net repair.
I have done the other steps.

let us know how it’s going, or open a case at tech@mcneel.com so we can help address this directly.

HI,
There was an update yesterday that seemed to fix things.
only one crash to desktop ,First thing this morning.

It’s been good since, :grimacing:

Yep,It’s still happening.

I have literally updated everything,MSoft pushed an update to .Net 4.8 too.
It generally happens when zooming ,There is a pause and it dumps me to desktop.

Maybe time to reinstall windows…

I have reinstalled windows and it been ok for a few hours.
It’s just crashed to desktop,.Net error again…

@theoutside

.Net error is a windows function that should be able to be remedied with the .Net repair tool.

which is here- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=30135

BUT… If you reinstalled windows, you will need to run windows update to insure you have the latest updates. Believe or not, even new windows installs need updates.

Your case seems very odd, as I would assume a reinstall of windows would get you sorted. Makes me wonder if there is a hardware issue going on… (bad ram stick, failing hardrive, failing power supply etc)

Will you resend your rhino systeminfo so we can see what rhino is reporting after all your updates?

Hi,
I have checked for updates and ran the .net fix tool
Maybe i will run some stress test tools to check teh RAM etc
