PC user

Rhino crashes when trying to export selected Model to STL.

This has never happened before.

The file is a closed polygon.

Thank you,
Dorian

works here-

what is your system info and what mesh setting are you trying to use?

here are mine-

lamptest.zip (2.2 MB)

system info here:

Processor AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 3.60 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB
Gigabyte nVidia GTX 1070
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
still not working

WOW
Used your advanced setting in render settings/Mesh
Then set simple settings (.1 mm) in File/Export Selected
and the export did not crash.
Then set simple back to the 0.05 mm default and it is now working again.
Have know idea what happened; first crash of an STL export since 2003.
Computers!
Thanks Kyle

you may have accidentally set the mesh parameter’s to be something really dense… it’s easy to do and that creates a mesh that can blow thru your ram…

keep in mind that .05 mm is reallllly tiny… Unless you are doing jewelry that is likely too small.

the most important setting is distance from surface.

that should do most of the heavy lifting. If you need more density, make the max edge length a bit smaller and preview to see if its gone crazy on you.

you want reasonable density, without making it a solid opaque mess.

check out this video series.

videos 1-9 are the ones to focus on.

That’s fantastic information, thank you for the education, I really never did exactly understand the printing settings. I’ll watch that video right now,
thanks again
Dorian

it’s a 9 part series… make some popcorn…

An outstanding, and funadmentally practical series it is too.
Well done Kyle.
