does anyone work with Rhino and a BIM-plugin for architecture? I just heard of VisualARQ. Which one is the best for architecture according to your opinions? Anything on the horizon for Rhino mac?
We are a young architectural practice and wish to do most of our workflow (3D, 2D, technical layouting) in Rhino. Because then you need one software and don’t have to export/import all the times - with the consequence of ending up with a whole load of files.
Have you considered switching to Windows? There is a much more robust plugin and support community than w/ Rhino for mac. Not to mention all the other software typically used in architecture and related fields.
As the others said, you’ll have to wait for plug-ins on the Mac platform.
There are, however, a few Grasshopper (on Mac WIP ‘Explicit History’ for the time being) components that are BIM-oriented. I have not tried any of these so you will have to look around a bit. The place for plug-ins for Rhino is the Food4Rhino site. Not everything will work on Explicit History.
I suppose you could start by checking if this one does anything for you:
We in our office have recently switched to mac (+/- 2 years) and find ourselves fairly happy about that.
Mac computers are more expensive to buy, but more stable, easier to handle, lose less network/printer connections, have less cables and last longer (aluminium bodies and so on). And for a better security all of the machines use always the newest OS X. With no extra cost. We are thinking about using also a mac as local server.
We were surprised that we actually spend less then we used to before.
I am aware of the reports of EH crashing but if McNeel has a full list of add-ons crashing versus not-crashing, now would be a good time to add that list to that thread. I don’t see how asking people to stay away from a WIP will benefit development.
