It would be nice to have an option to use the Rhino 7 style for these elements:

Yeah, not a lot of people like these dots apparently, but I don’t have much hope that it will change any time soon.
You can hide the dots, but the new “gripper box” will still be there:
It indeed sucks, hope to see it fixed sometime down the road.

that helps a bit making it look less lego like., nothing against lego though but not in Rhino UI.
Off topic: by the way, did you work on that project at BIG the Lego building in Denmark?
I did not. Think that was mostly a Revit project, with all those boxes
