Rhino 8 Strange CPlane / axes / view behavior - cause and solution

This post is for Rhino 8 users who have views or Cplanes seem to change at random, axes are in the expected locations, or geometry appear to rotate.

A new feature was introduced in Rhino 8, AutoAlignCplane, which is turned ON by default. It automatically changes the Cplane to align with certain types of objects when such an object is selected. See the Help page for more information. CPlane | Rhino 3-D modeling

To turn this new feature OFF use the AutoAlignCplane command and set Enabled=No, or click on the button at the bottom of the screen.

To reset the Cplanes to the default configuration run 4View. The command may need to be repeated.

I am not aware of a simple method to undo the results of AutoAlignCplane to other than the default configuration. Unfortunately UndoCplane does not work.

Iā€™m revising and bumping ththe post above because there are continuing posts by new users of Rhino 8 reporting problems due to the new AutoAlignCPlanes being enabled when Rhino 8 is installed.

Bumping this thread.

During the WIP development phase, the Auto CPlane tool was turned on so people would see it.
We intended turn it off for initial release but screwed up and left it on unintentionally.
It will be turned off by default in an upcoming Service Release.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
