Rhino 8 Section Tool - Problem with block

I see it and I’m looking into it. Thanks for sharing the model.

[Update] I found where the bug is and I’m working on a fix. It was introduced in 8.9 (8.8 works with blocks).

[Update2] This issue is now fixed and you should be able to see it in the next service release candidate. filed here…

Hello Rajaa,

thank you for the progress - the clipping drawings are working better now but I think still not reliable. I attached another file with a bug.

the right plane is clipping only through geometry - here it seems to work fine.
the left plane clips through some on some of the outside surface and here in the drawing in the top right stuff gets shifted again

as always working with the latest service release

best regards,
sebowim

@rajaa sorry forgot to tag you.

cheers

Hi Sebastian -

Thanks. I’ve logged this as RH-83566 Section Tools: Clipping Drawings Failure Sample
-wim

New R8 SR10 user here.
I have the same issue - Section Drawings will not show elements contained within a block. The objects on the right (in red circle) are blocks, and outside the circle - not blocks.
The blocks don’t show up on the Section Drawing.

I also have the exact same issue with running a Section Drawing through a “Lands Design” Terrain Object.

This is an absolutely useless situation!

Hi Gil -

In a quick test here, I’m not able to reproduce that issue.

Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here. Also, if you could post a simple file that we can use to troubleshoot this issue, that would be very helpful.

Hi Gil -

Thanks -
This appears to have been fixed in a SR11 candidate.

If this is something that requires the Lands Design plug-in, you’ll want to report this to Asuni → RhinoLands (Lands Design) - McNeel Forum
-wim

I am new to this. What would that mean in practice? Is this available?

ThX - Reported to Asuni with a link to this Discourse
 Gil

Never mind, got it figured. Newbe me

@rajaa

I don’t have time to read through the topics to see if it was reported yet, but during my tests of this tool (ClippingDrawings to be exact) I noticed problems with cutting through Block Instances.

I want to produce a ClippingDrawing that will cut through Block Instances but only include geometries that are on given Layers. You can see, that Breps (on the right) are giving me expected results - only purple part is visible on the ClippingDrawing. Cutting through Block Instance that is placed on Block Instance Layer 01 is producing curves from both Layer 01 (red - incorrect) and Layer 02 (purple - correct).

EDIT:

Now I see it was reported 1,5 years ago, unfortunately, it seems that no one is working on it at the moment. Pity, because Blocks are important, but have many problems.

RH-81593 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 29
