Sorry if it has been addressed already, but I just found out that section styles in Rhino 8 WIP don’t work on objects inside a block - I’m not running the latest release though: (8.0.22305.12305, 2022-11-01)

Hi Daniel -
Why not?
-wim
Thanks Wim and sorry for the late reply. You are right, it’s working now, not sure what happened last week.
I’ve had some performance issues with one of the previous releases (I think it was 23-11-22), but I’ve tried the latest (29-11-22) and all is working fine (does work faster and seems more stable when working with blocks)
Hi @wim, sorry to bother you with the same issue again, but it returned - I’ve tested on both machines (one Rhinio 8.0.22340.12305, 2022-12-06 and second Rhino 8.0.22340.12305, 2022-12-06) and blocks don’t seem to cut with solid sections styles until they get exploded. 3dm file attached.
Hi @Daniel_Krajnik, this seems indeed broken. I do recall this being an issue in other versions as well although I’m not sure this was with nested blocks. I do see that In Rhino 7 it doesn’t display correctly either with this nested block. If I explode one level it displays correctly in both 7 and 8.
I created RH-72039 Missing Clipping Fills or Edges on nested blocks
Thanks a lot - fixing this one will be really helpful. Otherwise we need to explode all blocks at each image export.
Hi ! 2024 here. Sections on block instances are still not working properly.
hi @osuire pls send a sample and your _SystemInfo. I verified the file from (closed) YT and that displays well here in the latest internal build.
Is this supposed to make all lines and fills red like in V7? I have never been able to get this to work in V8… (and just checked with SR6).
it depends, you need to set your objects’ Section Style to ‘By Clipping Plane’ for this to work.
(it needs to be set to the objects in the block)
It seems to work now, but the issue may be linked to the chosen Display Mode, similar to this other issue I’m having.
I’ll come back to you if I can pin it.
But if the object’s section style is “by layer” and the layer’s section style is “none”, doesn’t it feel intuitive that the above custom section style should take precedence?
Also, for the object you can change “by layer” to “by clipping plane”, but for a layer there is no such corresponding option. It just pops up that same section style dialog.
One of the above should work, imo, because I think I’ve claimed before that section styles in V8 were bugged because that’s what this UX feels like.
