Over the last few months I’ve been toying with Rhino 8, but the biggest thing that’s holding me back is the right click menu being so stripped back from what it was in Rhino 7. This was the primary way I changed views and display modes and I haven’t been able to find a way to bring it back. See the following images to see the menus compared:
Is my workflow just terrible and I need to adapt? Or is there a way to make this more manageable? There’s a noticeable jump in performance in Rhino 8 that makes me want to make the switch, but this is a serious hurdle for me.
Honestly, I dug around before this post and there are similar posts but all slightly different. Regardless, it’s been a couple months of discussing this amongst our team and there hasn’t been a change yet. So I don’t mind being the 21st post.
See this YT for more info why it was removed RH-70566 User-Interface: Viewport title menu and context popup are made more consistent with Windows version
Kind of a bummer the ability to right click anywhere to call up this menu was completely removed. If we had the option to bring it back it would help heaps.
It may not seem like a big deal but this (as well as a few other UI changes) are holding up our firm from making the switch.
But why? Are windows users resistant to have such convenience? It seems like consistency is overriding utility in many aspects of this troubling update.
Working towards a more unified interface shouldn’t call for reducing the flexibility of the interface.
I don’t want to upgrade until the last minute for the discount because I’ll lose everything I’ve tweaked to my satisfaction over the last few years, and will have to spend hours relearning and customizing the app all over again.
The feature has been implemented in 8.5 which we haven’t made generally available yet. There’s a chance Jon is getting daily builds which we don’t recommend as they have not gone through any testing.
