i recently started using rhino 8 and when sending to keyshot 2023 via the plug-in or import the texture maps loose their ‘mapping’ (uv details getting lost?) any idea on how to fix this? im going to have to go back to rhino 7 otherwise…
Does it look like it is similar to this?
here are the visual representations of the issues, i use planar mapping on my surfaces/object most often…
this is what it looks like in rhino
this is how it imports to keyshot
everything is off…ive been going in and manually adjusting the maps to ‘fit’
To me that looks like it could be related. @Jussi_Aaltonen ?
Yes, indeed!
This is logged as RH-80057 KeyShot: texture mapping wrong on Rhino 8 model
@luke_slomba What are your steps to get the model into KeyShot?
i either type keyshotrender in rhino or in keyshot file import…when saving down to rhino 7 from 8 same issues persist…
here is the file that was used…
product 1.3dm (6.2 MB)
here are my OS details…
Hi @luke_slomba - There will be a new fix in the coming Rhino 8.5 release that will fix the coordinate issue between Rhino 8 and Keyshot 12.
You’ll need to type the TestFillInLegacyTextureCoordinates > select the object and validate before sending the geometry through the live link into Keyshot.
Rhino 8.5 should be released tomorrow.
is this for ‘in the mean time’ for 8.5? or how i will have to use rhino 8 going forward into keyshot?
also…
am i misunderstanding how to perform this command?
We are working on making this seamless for future versions. There is code that needs to be modified in both Rhino and Keyshot to make it happen. We are in touch with the developers at Luxion to work through this. So in principle, this is a temporary fix. I don’t know how long it’ll take. We’ll keep you posted here through the thread.
thank you everyone!!!
do i still need to use this command with the latest rhino 8 update?
Hi @luke_slomba - Yes, I believe so. We haven’t had much traction on the Keyshot end, which we need in order to make this happen. Let’s ping @Jussi_Aaltonen to make sure!
Yes, unfortunately you still need to use that command.
is this issue fully resolved in latest update?
I have not heard of any updates
Hi,
Since the last Rhino updates “TestFillInLegacyTexture Coordinates“ don’t work.
Did someone find any other solution ?
Thanks by advance.
We’ve added code into Rhino 8.9 that tries to keep the legacy texture coordinates somewhat up to date - much like Rhino 7 did. So you should not need to run the TestFillInLegacyTextureCoordinates command anymore. This is only a temporary fix because it has unnecessary performance hit and it only works for simple material setups.
We have also been in contact with some of the render plug-in developers including Keyshot. We are working together to get this issue resolved in the correct way.
