The linetypes with a “x_…” are comming from my own template file. I used those in Rhino7 without any issue with a model scale of 1.0… (Document Properties - Linetypes - Model space scale)
Now with Rhino8, I scale up the linetypes by 500 or so, as mentioned earlier. It works for the default set of linetypes, only. My initial linetypes are too big for the layout, of course. But this is new in R8.
The only thing I need and which seems to be important is, to see in model space the effect of linetypes, while I am drafting and want them to be printed in layout the same way… ideally as close to the model space as possible.

When I open that file, I see that only the following linetypes have the “Use model units” checked:
As your image shows, those three linetypes look exactly the same in model space as they do in layout space.
Doesn’t that show that this option works as expected?

Yes, it looks okay for those 3 linetypes as I did the screenshot… but sometimes it doesn’t look like this. They all look like continues lines, regardless of the checker. If I try the “Use model units” checker, sometimes it reacts accordingly, but sometimes it doesn’t. And lately there were no effects at all, if I checked or not. I am not sure, but I had the feeling that this option is somehow not stable.
I also was not able to check for individual linetypes, it took it for all or for none of them.
So that’s why I tried to work around with the scale factor.
Could you please make a test on all those Linetypes with a x_… with the checker individually, if they would work the same? - many thanks!

Rhino 8 changed this. There will not be reversal to the Rhino 7 way.
It has now been two years since Rhino 8’s release. The new approach is to default to Layout linetype scaling unless Model scaling is enabled on the linetype(s).
However, you can set the model linetype scale on multiple linetypes using this command (Rhino 8 & 9 WIP):
TestSetAllLinetypeScale

The giant elephant in the room is that the system is broken. So broken that any workaround will just lead you to another broken aspect of it. I’m obviously still using Rhino but this is one thing I just won’t agree with. I posted some files previously outlining some of the problems. So many people have spent so much of their time on this.

I opened your file and I saw a list of linetypes but no way to easily tell which was Model scaled.
So I renamed all your linetypes that is Model Linetype scaling to include the M prefix. Then I changed the color to red so I could focus on these objects.
Then I set the detail scale and locked it.
I created points in Model space so I could dimension the linetypes and compare to the definitions.
I also needed to set the annotation style to Millimeter and not Model units since the Model unit are Meters. I did not want Meters for the dimensions, I waned millimeters.
Then I dimensioned to the points and compared the results to the Linetype definition that used Model units. They were all working.
These were working as expected with Model scaling.

These were too small to measure, so I did not verify them with a dimension.
One additional test, I turn off the Model scale and tested that the linetypes updated, and they did. If the Model scale was selected, the linetype scaled in Model units. If it was unchecked, it was scaled to Layout units. This worked as expected.

If you or any user still has issues, please upload a simple example 3DM, your Rhino SystemInfo, and instructions and how I can repeat it here.
The advantage of the Rhino 8 way, is that Layout and Model scaling is controlled on the linetype so you can have a layout that uses both Layout and Model scaled linetypes. This was set in the document in Rhino 7, so it was choice for one or the other.
Most users want to work this way. However there are a some that need or want Model scaling, especially those doing civil and other engineering drawings.
Give this a try. And let us know what you see on your Rhino.

This is a setting or property of the linetypes that have selected.
So the command is not remembering what was set last time it was ran. It is showing you the units that your selected linetype are set to.

Yes, i understand, but….When man use more linetypes all the time, would be greate to remember this choice - drawings creating princip is always the same then we need the same lines with “model unit” nextime too…

Linetypes are in the document, like layers.
They are not a global or system setting that will affect all files.
If you customize the linetypes in a model, you can save the file as a template. Then you can use your custom template to start any new models.
Linetypes in any existing model will need to be modified in the Linetypes panel or with the TestSetAllLinetypeScale command.

I cannot manage the Model Space Linestypes Scale at all.
Resets to 100.00 everytime I Close / reopen the Document Properties dialogue.

I’ve determined it is failing to Scale in THIS file attached, however, other files also have it failing… it doesn’t seem file specific.

Steps to repeat: Open Doc Props and change Linetype > Model spc scale. Close dialogue and reopen.
@mary seems to be saying there is a workable system for managing ALL Linetyp scales (Setting Model scale) , SOME linetype scales (Selecting, then setting scale) , and SPECIFIC lines (per object properties). But if the Document Model space setting cannot be changed reliably, all of this is rendered useless, and we’re left with indiscernable linetypes with no differentiation.
Has anyone else had this Glitch? Please chime in if so.
