Rhino 8 Feature Request: Improved "Text" Tool

The text tool as it stands is a little clunky, I’ve found, and doesn’t include a lot of the text design capabitlities that other programs include (particularly Adobe.) I know this isn’t really the main function of Rhino, but as an architectural designer who works on drawings in Rhino, I often find myself wanting more functionality from the text tool. Here are some ideas for improving the text tool:

Basic:

  • Improved font search - should allow the user to type the font and limit the selections, as the InDesign searchbar does
  • Rhino should support “Points” as a unit (also useful for line-weights)
  • The text tool should work with Windows High Contrast Mode for low vision Rhino users (me) - meaning all icons should be visible
-Snaps work on the textbox (for instance, mid-snap)
-Ability to select and re-type text in the viewport

Intermediate: Better interface for Text command

  • Addtional character and paragraph editing: small Caps, ability to adjust kerning and letting, small caps, ability to slant laters for fake italics, ability to change indent, different forms of paragraph justification, create drop caps, numbered and bulleted lists
  • FlowTextFrame: “flows” text from one text frame to another

Advanced: (not critical, but interesting)

  • TextFrame - makes any object into a text frame
  • ExplodeParagraph - explode a text object at the spaces between words (keeps the object as text)

Those are my thoughts on the Text command, if I have any additional I will add to this thread.
