Rhino 8 error when opening Grasshopper

Hello, when I try to open GH from the Rhino 8 toolbar, I get the following error:

I have no problem with V7.

Hello. I just downloaded the eval version of Rhino 8 for windows, and when I try opening Grasshopper from the toolbar, I receive the following:

Hi @akilli,

Can you run the SystemInfo command and post the output?

Thanks,

– Dale

Hi Dale. I thought restarting my machine would help but it didn’t. Here’s the Systeminfo. Thanks.

Hi @akilli,

You might grab the current release candidate and see if that fixed the issue.

On a side note, your system doesn’t really meet the V8 system requirements…

Thanks Dale but that didn’t help.

That doesn’t surprise me, it’s a clunker.

@eirannejad - is this anything you know about?

I was left hanging on this matter and was made to believe it was a result of my antiquated system, the “expert” never responding, but when I happened on this thread:

and followed the COFF workaround described, I was able to open up GH in V8 by unchecking. That’s not to say there aren’t other problems, maybe even as a result, but I am kind of pissed.

I can see how this got missed or passed over by Ehsan, this appears to be related to a plugin compatibility error. Dale’s system requirements comment was a side note, unrelated to the issue.

Can you re-enable the COFF and start Grasshopper via the Rhino command line with GrasshopperLoadOneByOne to identify the culprit through a process of elimination? Once found we can contact the dev and inform them of the options. (other way to troubleshoot is to move the 3rd gh plugins out of the specialty folders) Thanks

I downloaded the most recent release to make sure we’re not talking about ancient history, and 5000 plugins later, when I finally get to GhPython, I get the same message as at the very top.

Can you first open the Rhino Script Editor and do a Reset? Then restart Rhino?

Can you see if there was an extra version of Grasshopper.dll hanging out in the Rhino 8/System folder? Another user ran into a similar error recently. The ‘unique PythonAssembly…’ seems like there might be 2…

Um, and how do I open the Rhino Script Editor?

run via the Rhino command line with ScriptEditor command.

Sorry, you’re not dealing with a developer here. I’ve gotten as far as the Advanced tab, per your screenshot. Now what?

Select the Reset and then you’ll see blue bar at the bottom.

After the restart open the ScriptEditor again from Rhino command line, then start grasshopper.

I did as you instructed, reset Python and Iron Python successfully, but when I just restarted Rhino, get the same GhPython error upon launching GH.

We need to say Yes to GHPython and NO to all 3rd party GH plugins. Something (a plugin) is preventing the GHPython load

I’m not sure I understand. Who’s “we”, and is this a “solution”, or more debugging? Are you asking me to say no to all the plugins that arise during “load one by one” and then say yes to Ghpython?

Correct.

We are working through this, me and you.

I said no to everything in GrasshopperLoadOneByOne until I got to Ghpython. Saying yes produces that same old error. Just to make sure I always said no, I went through the process twice. I should note that whenever this error pops up, it’s impossible to close out of Rhino and I must use Task Manager.
