Rhino 8 crashing in Materials Panel

Multiple issues with Materials Panel crashing my Rhino8. Happened both before and after most recent update, and seems regardless of file.

Some crashes, tho haven’t had the time to test how consistent:

  • Searching for a material name
  • Opening/closing a material
  • Selecting option for Floating material window
  • Slider adjustments

Please let me know if you need the file I’m currently working on - I can upload it to the link (I shouldn’t upload this model to the general discourse.)

Thx
Alan

@Alan_Farkas - can you disable all plug-ins that do not ship with Rhino, and then try to repeat?

Also, I’m not seeing a crash report from you regarding this. Did you submit one?

Thanks,

– Dale

Hi @dale There was no crash report window, or I would have been happy to send it.

If there’s a way to find the crash somewhere on my system, I’d be happy to share.

Will have to try the plug-in thing.

Look on your desktop for a DotNet crash text file…

Yep, none. Maybe I changed some setting.

FYI - I tried disabling and then re-enabling plugins, and now seem s to be ok.

Nope - crashed again (just before saving bunch of work

Same Problem Here - on my Mac

→ But I found the malefactor - In my Case the deactivation of the Maxwell Plugin helped.
(Before I complete cleaned the application support folder from Rhino - after the Maxwell reinstall the Problem were back).
hehe maybe it is time to switch to Bella
(my Problems startet with the SRC-8.9.24177.13002, 2024-06-25

Btw, you shouldn’t use this material - it was intended to be a stop-gap PBR material for Rhino 6 only. Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 have a good Physically Based material that is properly integrated.

Should I disable the plugin, itself? Or is it just the material?

The material only provides a material, but it would be wise to disable the plug-in and replace all material assigments of that material to the physically based material in Rhino 7 or Rhino 8
