Hey, is there anyone who knows, why bump maps in Rhino 8 with Rhino integrated renderer don’t work? I renderd two pictures as examples. One with Rhino 7 where you can see bumps on the dark wooden parts and one with Rino 8 where this is gone. Every settings are the same. I tryed a lot but can’t fix it. I don’t want to work with displacement what has to be set for every part. This would be realy bad for my workflow. I just want to create one material and use it several times.
Would be great to get some help here. Thanks!
There are a few youtracks regarding Bump maps at the moment. My understanding is that this is something to do with scene size @nathanletwory has more details.
Try adjusting one of these to a larger number: Bump Distance/Strength.
Can you post a small example or privately send us the scene? Thanks
Hey, thanks for your quick answer. I’ve send you the scene.
Best
@Jan_Holger , Please go to Tools > Options > Advanced
. Type in Bump
and set BumpStrengthFactor
to 10
That should give you this amount of bump
Each time you change the BumpStrengthFactor
you have to get out of Raytraced and switch back to it to see the new setting.
I’ve added this thread to RH-79944 Bump map on ground plane imperceptible
Hey, thanks for your message. This changes only the strength of for example a metal texture with bump but not for my custom material with bump texture added. I always can see the bump in rendered mode but not if i switch to raytraced or if i render it.
Ah yes, I forgot to mention the step where I changed the wood material from custom to physically based. I am not sure yet exactly why the custom material isn’t playing along nicely with bump mapping. But until it is fixed change your Rhino Custom materials to Physically Based materials when you need the bump.
edit: logged issue as RH-80286 Bump doesn’t work properly on Rhino Custom material
Ahh there it is. Nice, thanks!!
Looking forward to the fixes
RH-79944 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 13
