Rhino 8 and OpenCore anyone?

Does anyone around here run Rhino 8 via Monterey (or newer) with OpenCore and can share insight if that works well?

i have an Imac 27 inch late 2014, 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 and an AMD Radeon R9 M295X with 4GB of GDDR5 that should by performance at least work still alright.

Even if it might work, i suspect, that you will not have much joy with that configuration.
I tried an iMac Late 2013 (Quad Core i7, GeForce GT 750, 16 GB Ram) with MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1. and Rhino 8 just crashed on startup.
If that is your only machine, you might try to install Windows 10 via BootCamp. Rhino 8 should work there. To test it, you can install Windows without entering a license code.

thanks for responding @joerg. well Sonoma is also quite a bit further, i read that there are different stages of driver support the further you go ahead with the Os, maybe its too far in and Monterey might make more sense?

there is also the option to start the mac in safe mode which would launch Rhino on mac in safe mode, also there is Testmetal to switch from Metal to OpenGl and vice versa.

that mac is only my lab computer i have a different but it would be great if i could do some sessions there either without switching work places each time.. installing Windows might be needed at some point but is not priority

I have the exact same iMac as you with Sequoia 15.4 installed using OpenCore Patcher and Rhino 8 does not work. It crashes immediately after opening a project.

Rhino 6 works.

@Worsdier thanks for you reply

i guess i have to give up on that idea then, i really hoped or thought as stated above that it depends on the Mac Os version, but probably not..

The hack OpenCore does to make newer OS’s work on unsupported hardware is probably the cause. My guess it is related to Metal.
