Rhino 7 won't launch

Hi,

I know some already had that kind of issue and I searched the net and tried some solutions given but it didn’t work.

Whenever I try to launch Rhino 7, the app just ignores it even exists.

Rhino safemode launch doesn’t work neither

I have windows family 11 64bits on an ACER NITRO 5 Laptop / 11th Gen Intel Core 5 i5-11400H @ 2.7GHz / 16Go RAM / Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU

I have been using rhino for years now and never had any issue. I just happened to update my nvidia pilots two days ago, can it be the source of the problem ?

Hi Stéphane -

Have you tried these?
→ Repair the Rhino installation from the Windows Control Panel
→ Do a clean install of the latest GPU drivers
-wim

In my case the same thing happened because of a Windows 11 “Security update”.

Did you try my solution in my recent thread? Here is the link:

Same thing has happened me this morning. Never had any issues for years before and now it wont load when I click on the app!

Hi John -

Did you read and try any of the suggestions from this thread?
-wim

yes i have tried them both

Hi John -

Then the third by Gianpietro might do the trick?
-wim

i have tried that too

Take a look at my WHOLE post about that trick with Windows security updates: it seems there are MORE security updates causing that problem.

Carefully check your Windows Update History and find the last security update that was applied, right before the date when the malfunctioning began.

To me it happened two times with two different security updates, about a week of distance one from the other.

yes thank you Gianpietro, i have read through and uninstalled the updates but still no change. These updates happened in January also so it does not make sense they would affect me today. But the app simply will not start just like Jonard said this morning. This problem only arose since this morning after i used the app at the weekend and no updates have occurred between those days.

I know.

Sorry, I don’t have any other ideas to help you: I hope someone else can suggest another trick.

Good luck!

What has been typically working is to Repair the 2015-2022 redistributables (x86 first, then x64), then repairing Rhino 7.

If you get another windows update or install other software you may need to repeat these steps. The microsoft support files have been rather fragile lately.

I had the support tell me to deinstall/reinstall then repair the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) and (x86) and tadaaaa…. it worked… Thanks for all the answers.

Thank you Jonard, the solution you proposed worked greatly!

I just uninstall the versions of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) and (x86) 14.44.xxx and installed the newest 14.50.35719, without any repair.
