Rhino 7 Not Using Nvidia 5070 Ti Laptop GPU

Hello,

I’ve been having a tremendously difficult time getting Rhino 7 to recognize and use my GPU. This has resulted in odd rendered view behavior such as this:

I have tried adjusting the NVIDIA Control Panel settings for OpenGL, changing the Windows settings for graphics, fully uninstalling Nvidia drivers with DDU and reinstalling latest studio driver versions. Additionally, I double checked and Rhino is up to date. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is my system info:

It looks like you have the right settings. On occasion these can be troublesome.

Lets do a clean install of the nvidia drivers (The January windows update has been problematic in this regard)

  1. Run the driver installer again
  2. choose custom
  3. check the ‘clean driver install’ option

There are apps on certain computers that can override your settings as well.

Lenovo - Lenovo Vantage Lenovo gaming laptops use Lenovo Vantage software, which includes a “Hybrid Mode” switch on the right-hand side of the interface. When Hybrid mode is enabled, Optimus is on; when Hybrid mode is disabled, Optimus is turned off, requiring a reboot for changes to take effect Jarrod’s Tech

ASUS - Armoury Crate ASUS laptops use Armoury Crate, which includes GPU Mode settings that allow switching between different power-saving modes including Eco Mode, Standard, and Ultimate (discrete GPU) modes, with MUX Switch functionality integrated after version 5.2.12 ASUSAsus

MSI - Dragon Center / MSI Center MSI laptops use Dragon Center (older models) or MSI Center (newer models), which includes a GPU Switch option to toggle between MSHybrid Graphics Mode and Discrete Graphics Mode MSIMSI USA

Dell Some Dell gaming laptops (like the G15 5515) require switching through BIOS rather than software, accessed by pressing F2 during boot and navigating to the Advanced tab to toggle “Enable Hybrid graphics” Jarrod’s Tech

Alienware Alienware laptops typically don’t have front-end software for MUX switching and require BIOS configuration, accessed during boot by pressing F2

That doesn’t sound good

I was just about to type this but this option is important it switches between the gpus

Okay, thank you so much for the help. It turned out that my Intel Drivers were out of date in general. I installed the driver updater software, which I was not used to as I remember older Intel cpu’s not having a proper installer app, but now it’s fixed! I installed the “Intel Arc Graphics - Windows” located here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/242293/intel-core-ultra-9-processor-275hx-36m-cache-up-to-5-40-ghz/downloads.html

Here is my new system info for those in the future.
