Rhino 5 reset to defaults

Hello, my Rhino 5 version is having severe trouble. Need it for one special plugin
Clean install, no plugins installed (deleted the plugin and did a fresh install), working with the 64bit version.

It responds very slow, it’s literally 10 sec waiting for changing any settings in options, program freezes during several actions. Now all icons and toolbars are gone.

Reinstalled it 3 times without any effect.

How can I reset to default in Rhino 5 as this link only shows it for v6/7 https://wiki.mcneel.com/reset_to_defaults

If you experiencing the same or have any idea how to takle this, please tell me!

Thank you

PS: it also will not show up when restarted until I press “Switch here”:

Then it will freeze a long time until finished

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble.

  • What operating system are you running?
  • What gpu are you running and what is the date of the drivers?
  • What are the specifics of this “severe trouble”?
  • Reinstalling is generally a waste of time. A “Repair” will replace the missing Windows dependencies.
  • The ToolbarReset command and a restart will restore default toolbars.

After a Repair, if you still have problems, please reply back with the details of the troubles.

Thanks

Thank you John, here is my system info, will do a repair an come back

You’re running under Windows 11.
That’s too new:

How can I manage the plugin to work in v6 or 7 or is there a workaround for that? Thank you

If the plug-in is only available for V5, you’ll need a compatible Windows 10 computer.

I understand.

Thank you, John.

@John_Brock I will install Win10 on a second partition. Hope this works. Thank you

Rhino V5 runs just fine in windows 11 here. I don’t believe that is the problem.

@hannesgrebin - does Rhino V5 run at all without your plug in enabled?

Mitch - it does but one plugin of two I need won’t be recognized, and everything slows down and interrupts. There is also no repair option. The Installer would just reinstall.

But I had also some minor glitches with WIP (v8) - maybe there is something strange going on with other programs. But I had it occur on two different machines. So no idea. Just tinkering before getting this dual boot option started. Hope this will resolve by itself.

Thank you

If V5 runs OK without any non-standard plug-ins, then I suspect some Windows 11 update broke something for the plugin(s) - not for Rhino. Maybe Windows 10 will fix it. Maybe not. You can also run Rhino V5 in compatibility mode in Win 11 and choose which version of Windows you want. But I don’t know if that will also apply to the plug-ins.
