Revit UI blinking and weird problems

On two out of two computers that I’m using I encountered something very worrying about the UI.
It’s difficult to describe but it feels like something is constantly refreshing. It’s visible in the Revit UI (Properties panel) and in the Rhino viewport.
Once, this UI blinking was preventing me from changing data in the Revit Properties - the dropdown menu was instantly hiding.

Clicking on the Windows taskbar, or another window changes this behavior a bit.

Behavior on system 1 - Rhino 8 with Revit 2024

Yup, This was recently introduced and a bug has been submitted. RH-78879 Thanks for reporting.

Thanks, good that it’s known. Lately, I have a little bit more problems with various popup windows and errors. Not that they are critical, but some errors can hide themselves behind the Rhino/Revit window and there is no way to display them. I either blindly press enter or use win + shift + arrow to move the window to the other screen in the hope that it will reveal some other windows. Sometimes it’s just Rhino things, but working with Rhino Inside Revit makes it even more complicated. - For example, recently I had a Python error hiding behind the Grasshopper splash screen.

This is fixed now on Rhino 8.3

RH-78879 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 3 Release Candidate

In my case, Rhino.InsideRevit stability problems are getting out of hand. For a long time, it was working well. Strangely, it was more stable when Rhino was in the beta version.

After updating to Rhino 8.3 I can reproduce one scenario in which Revit 2022.1 and 2024.2 (on different computer) crashes. The same procedure for Revit 2023 is working fine.
Unfortunately, I installed Rhino 8.3, the new RiR daily build, and Ladybug Tools all at once and I’m not sure what the exact combination of factors is crashing Revit.

I reverted to the RiR 1.19.8739.18619 and the problem still exists.

How to reproduce the crash:

  1. Start Revit and Rhino.Inside
  2. Do not click on the Rhino icon, click on the Grasshopper icon instead.
  3. Wait a couple of seconds for the silent crash.

How to avoid it:
Before running the Grasshopper, click on the Rhino icon, then Grasshopper.

In short: I have different Revit versions on different computers and on both computers I can crash Revit with the described steps.

computer 1:
Reverting to the RiR 1.19.8739.18619 and uninstalling Pollination didn’t remove Ladybug Tools from the Grasshopper (probably because I used LB Versioner?) but apparently resolved the problem (Revit 2024).

computer 2:
Uninstalling Pollination and having the latest RiR (1.19.8746.29632) or 1.19.8734.22138 with Revit 2022.1 didn’t resolve the problem.

I’ve spent way too much time today on this but if you have some tricks to try I will try them, I really need all of these products to work together.

Hi Jakub,

The appears unrelated to the blinking issue (RH-78879) that was resolved in 8.3.23347.03001.

Is this isolated to the Revit environment? How is standalone Rhino holding up?

Yes, it’s isolated and seems new to the 8.3 version. You can split the topic if you want. I didn’t want to bloat the forum section.

This might be related to some recent scripteditor changes. I need to test a little more before confirming.

I’m not seeing this on my other machine and will start looking for a plugin conflict on the one seeing the error.

@eirannejad any ideas?

Edit: This is coming from a Revit Addin conflict, haven’t narrowed it down to which one (potentially more than one)

Are you running the Revit Lookup Addin?

I disabled everything I could (some of the add-ins couldn’t be disabled by this plugin)
And had the same outcome as always. Silent crash after a couple of seconds.

Lets try this. Holding Shift+Control press the Start Button in the RiR Ribbon. This opens the dialog, select the first option. A new instance of Revit will start with no addins except RiR.

The method you proposed opens the new Revit instance with the Rhino window visible from the start. Once the Rhino window shows up, this problem does not occur.

There are some other issues with Ladybug visible, they are already resolved and do not affect this issue.
