Retain Hidden Objects in Views or Layer States?

Is it possible to retain hidden objects in views or a layer state? By “retain hidden objects” I mean create a view with hidden objects, unhide objects to work in the model, and when I restore the named view it hides the previously hidden objects.

Often I name my layers by material in the model, so layer steel would have a steel material associated with it. When I want to export views, details, etc…, I spend a lot of time re-hiding objects to capture a part of the model. It would be great to have named views retain objects that were hidden when the view was created.

Thanks!

LayerStates will allow you to hide some layers and then save a new layer state. Is this what you’re looking for?

You might not want to do this because you have other objects on a layer that you do want to display … because the layer is by material. If this is the case, I think you’d need to make additional sub-layers to control what’s on or off for all objects of the same material.

If I’m totally misunderstanding, can you explain what you mean by “retain hidden objects”?

I edited the post to clarify what I mean by "retain hidden objects. Hopefully this helps. Thanks for the response!

Thanks, I think a combination of Named Views and Layer States is needed for this as neither one does both elements of what you’d need. Layer States to change the visibility of objects and Named Views to control your camera position. There’s also Named Positions if you haven’t experimented with that panel.

I would suggest naming the Layer State and the Named View the same thing e.g. 1A, 1B etc. which will make it easier to use them together.

Thanks. What I am looking for is a check box in layer states for hidden/visible objects. So any objects hidden when the layer state was created will be hidden when the layer state is restored.
