Render view back face transparency issue?

in render view, the back faces dont show transparency.
any solution for this?

Hello- how does the full rendering or raytraced viewport look?

-Pascal

very different, but I still wonder why would render viewport does that.
attached rhino file as well

Hi Mikele - to accurately show refraction the scene really needs to be raytraced - the ‘rendered’ viewport is a fast and ‘cheap’ approximation that is the least satisfactory when transparent, refractive materials are in the scene.

-Pascal

Well, now i see its also on picture frame import,

seems something changed, as in the past (like a couple days ago, also any picture I dropped in, you could see it from both sides, but now one side is gray, even is shaded viewport

Hi Mikele - can you please run SystemInfo in Rhino and copy/paste the results here?

And so seems its applying color/texture now, only on one normal face direction,
im used to it applying on both sides as default.
how do I fix that?

Hi Mikele - even thought it might seem un-related, I would test by disabling the X Shoe plug-in in Options > Plug-ins page then close and re-start Rhino - is that any different?

-Pascal

still same issue, and i have all plugins for a while now, so not sure how that suddenly changed how materials only apply to one side of face as default

Hi Mikele - can you please post an example file that looks incorrect to you, or send to tech@mcneel.com with a link back here in your comments?
