Here’s how it is when I open Rhino 8:
Here’s how I close it (even explicitly going into the toolbar options and clicking save):
Rhino 7 remembers the setting and layout, why can’t Rhino 8?

Are these native V8 toolbars or imported from V7? I have had this problem with all of my V7 imported toolbars that were set to Image+Text. One solution I found was to create a new blank toolbar in V8 (with a different name) and copy over all the buttons and then delete the original. But I can’t remember if this solution stayed valid after having updated Rhino.
Another more radical solution which I am now using more or less everywhere is to re-create the toolbar from scratch with new blank buttons and add all the info bit by bit. But it takes a long time. I hope soon Steve will have fixed some of this stuff, but I am already mostly done.
If OTOH these are native V8 toolbars to begin with, I don’t know what’s wrong.
@eobet I can’t reproduce that here, I think I need a bit more info. Is this a toolbar from a custom rui file that you docked, and set to image + text, and you say that after closing and reopening Rhino, that toolbar goes back to icons only?
It’s a linked file in the toolbar button options, yes.
I suspected the reason was that I want all of the items in the toolbar to be icons + text except for the last item which has a linked toolbar, which I wanted to have text only (and the linked toolbar should also be text only).
Today, when I opened Rhino to check, the main toolbar was correctly displayed as icons + text, but when I went to the linked toolbar to click on it, what popped up was this:
I suspect when I go to change one thing, that change for some reason also affects something it shouldn’t affect, but I haven’t pinned down the pattern yet. All I know is that Rhino 8 never opens 100% the way I want it and the way Rhino 7 does.
@eobet can you run _SystemInfo and post back the results, there have been fixed some bugs regarding emptied icons recently.
I will try to dig into this a bit more and see if I can repeat it, thanks
Rhino asked to install an update when I closed it for that screenshot above, and now that I opened it for SystemInfo, things looked normal and seemingly stable. Fingers crossed that update fixed it!
SystemInfo.txt (2.4 KB)
thanks for letting us know, I’m glad to hear so!
