Recreate AI generated shape in Grasshopper

Dear all,

I am trying to translate the AI generated image of a bar into grasshopper. Since it is a piece of furniture, I need to be able to define the shape quite tightly. I have difficulty with getting started, since the shape is quite amorphous and not solely based on spheres or curves, and I am struggeling with coming up with the best method to approach this. So far, my ideas are:

-Mesh wrap simpler shapes with WeaverBird, then “blow up” the resulting mesh to achieve the boyous effect -

  • define shape through horizontal curves and loft those (very hands-on approach, probably time-intensive)

  • Use Dendro in some form (have never used that before)

I would be very grateful if some of you have a good idea or tool to approach this and can point me to a helpful discussion topic. I am sure similar things has been done before…

Grasshopper can help you if you have some algorithm to make you shape. It could be some smoothing, curves, fields …
For one shape I’ll opt for SubDmodelling. So the parametric of this work will be the control points of the SubD and now as there are some weights it could be useful to make the transitions better.

The problem with some of these images (besides the cyclops, the betrottered lady with her head on backwards, the lady with 2.5 legs, and the guy with the shadow of someone 2 ft tall), is that the shape often doesn’t survive scrutiny, because it is simply an aesthetic aggregate.

It’s a nice concept though, and the SubD crease functions may serve well here.

those subd are always tossed in so fast. that is imho done maybe even easier and lets not forget more precise with nurbs…

that is true, but something which looks pretty similar should be alright to make, it does not look too unlogical.

I guess easy is subjective. I am bad at SubD, but many here are rapid with it. Given this appears to have only two possible data (the floor and the surface where the drinks are), a bounding box, and is almost entirely freeform, I didn’t see the need for precision; even if you were to manufacture it. I’d imagine it would be a one-off that costs a smooth $20,000. :wink:

AI does seem to be getting better at these sorts of representations, and this certainly doesn’t have too much bad logic, but the far side I am struggling with. It should look nice, and I even like the lighting feature in there.

i think the barkeeper simply ran away because the people drank too much already :face_with_hand_over_mouth: at least noone there to clean up the heaps of glasses ts ts ts.

thank you for your speedy replies. It’s been a while since I modeled in 3D, so the advancemend of subd has completely surprised me. I this this is the way to go. Of course, the shape has to be redeveloped to actually work, but I think this is the most mangeable way for me to achieve the aesthetic.Thank you!

Also, since we are toying with AI, I discovered ZoeDepth, with wich you can analyse the image and crate a 3D file, might be useful to approximate the front surfaces accurately.
