Real surfacing

Did some real surfacing over the last couple of days to fix a problem…

Partially rusted out exhaust heat shield from 18-year-old Honda (salt, etc.)

The various tools and commands used:

4-sided NURBS patches from 0.75mm mild steel

Sketch tool: DrawWithSharpie

Trimming: Shear, SanderGrinder

Developable deformation: BendByHandOverForm and BendFreehand

Non-developable deformation: WhackWithHammerOverForm

Joining: MakeHole and PopRivet.

Render: 2-layer physical material, 99% zinc undercoat, matte silver topcoat

Definitely not class A… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But it will do its job for another couple of years and nobody will ever see it…

– except – Car inspection Friday…  …Ça passe ou ça casse…

Have you used the Bodyfiller and Sandpaper plug-ins? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Is that the Fluorescent Tube surface analysis in the last photo?

Looks like a custom display mode. Quite realistic IMO.

Did it pass?

I love CAD - cardboard aided design to create the shapes!

I didn’t come up with it, heard it in this ever inspirational series and must watch classic for gearheads. Might help you in the future with their bag of tricks (or tea)…

Now as long as nothing major breaks, I can drive it for another couple of years…

What s the hidden message of the laminated flooring / pseudo-wood-background ?
Did you photoshop it, to look less realistic ?

Was wondering when someone would notice that, worked very hard at it… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Tried to give it that real plastic look.

(great stuff for a workshop floor though)
