1.) I may not be able to add things to the Portfolio.
2.) Portfolio has indeed added a drawing of someones that I promoted, which is not mine. In other words, I posed something saying, that I saw this good Rhino project–and now it looks to Portfolio that I did it. This cannot stand.
If Brenda changes the post category from Gallery to something else, will that pull the image out of her Portfolio too? AFAIR people can’t edit Discourse portfolios, so I wonder if the image is now stuck there.
The thread was there before the gallery was changed to do what it does. Now, posting anything in gallery to help promote others, automatically is made to look like their work?
I hate the way the Portfolio quagmire works. I wish we, as users could just flag a screenshot for inclusion in the Portfolio.
Now, the other thread has to be deleted because of ethical and legal concerns. No, I am not kidding.
Most of that ended up in my cough Portfolio are not ones I would have chosen.
Do all the threads I created before the Portfolio function–now have to be deleted?!
How about putting such 3rd-party promotions in the News category rather than the Gallery? Particularly as a 3rd party may have as many reservations about their work appearing unsolicited in the Gallery as you do about some of yours appearing in your Portfolio…
If you do want to put a promo in the Gallery, put another image before the 3rd party’s. AFAIK a portfolio only picks up the first image in a thread. (Maybe you could cook up something with your lighthouse and the tag line “Brenda shines a light on x” )
I would have to edit dozens of threads that were made before the Portfolio was made from the Gallery threads, breaking the context of the responder’s post.
I strongly feel that users should be able to flag either a particular image for their Portfolio, or omit doing it. There must be one useless badge with could be replaced with something useful, like “Include in Portfolio” That way the Portfolio would be a controllable benefit, other than something that just grabs the first image it sees.
This is really upsetting. Portfolio changed the context of my posts after the fact, and makes it appear like I have taken credit for someone’s excellent work–when I wanted to make sure they had recognition for it.
as mentioned, for now, please put it in a normal post, not in gallery. The gallery is meant to promote your own work. I do see that it is not entirely unambiguous right now.
I agree that would make sense, I will bring this up in internal discussion
It’s been a long time ago that the portfolio was changed the way it works now. I don’t know which posts you are referring to that causes you issues. I’m sure if you point us to the post you want to be excluded we can take care of that quickly.
For instance, the inclusion of someone else’s (below) CNC in what you claim is now my “Portfolio” must legally be removed. I was trying to help someone.
What remains for me, is a mess because we users weren’t warned that bots would someday grab whatever, and suggest it is our best work.
I still strongly dislike the Portfolio implementation. I would rather us users have some control over what is included. My first SubD experiment is in there, and to some degree as I wanted it started to become an abstract chain project, some fun, but now it’s shown in my sic “portfolio” .
As I have also worked to help other users make things in Rhino, way back when, when I posted in Gallery, I also wanted to show the process—which never begins with the the final product.
Can we see all of your programming stubs and coding experiments : )
