Podbak extention files

Hi,

Lately [like a week ago] I started to notice that a lot of files with the extension .podbak are created in the folder of the GH I’m working on. I understand that they are backups of the GH.
Where, if possible, can I disable the creation of such files? Can’t find any results searching the forum or the internet

Thanks!

Thanks @martinsiegrist

As ussual those AI answers are not fully correct.

I’m talking about regular .gh files [not .ghuser] that started to appear as “backups” of gh I’m working on, since a week ago, this without asking for them. That’s why I’m wondering how I can control or set this issue.

Hi Ayezioro -

I save a fair bit of .gh files on my system, yet:

You aren’t running any plug-ins by any chance?

@wim ,

Yes, I do. Get your hint. This is probably because one of those. I’ll check which one I updated lately.

Thanks,

Hi @wim ,
Checked what I installed recently. here are only 2 things:

  1. Rhino: Updated to latest Release Candidate [8.28.26019.17381, 2026-01-19]

  2. Pollination [Ladybug Tools]: I asked them and they didn’t implement anything related to such “.podbak” files.

Asking ChatGPT, it “blames” Rhino with an explanation as such:

In Rhino 8 (WIP / RC) McNeel introduced a more aggressive autosave / crash-recovery system for Grasshopper.
The .podbak files are automatic backup files created for open and active Grasshopper definitions.

But it can find any reliable source for such an explanation.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

-A.

.podbak are backup files from pOd plugin, you can turn them off in the pOd bar. To use them rename the file to .gh

Thanks @dfytz1 ,

This is it!! By mistake, I enabled the pOd backups.
