With this method users can select a rectangle area(faces) by just selecting two corner faces. (See Fill Region part)

You can get close by using Lasso with the crossing option, you need to click 3 points though, start, end and start again.
For the last 15 minutes I’ve tried to use SelBrush to select faces on a SubD box in a perspective view similar to the video posted above but I have not been very successful so far.
Click and drag, or repeatedly click to brush select objects. Press Enter when done ( Curve SelectionMode=Crossing BrushWidth=260 Polyline=Yes SelectThroughObjects=No RealTimeSelection=No Undo )
