Hi guys, I would like to ask for opinions or solutions to the facade I’m trying to make. I’m new to GH and have been trying to do this facade for a while now (and I’m stuck). As you can see in the picture, some random but not entirely, there are patterns of rectangles (louvers/fins) on the facade along each level around the front and slowly fade away when it’s closer to the middle of the building. I’m trying to make it parametric based on the height of the surrounding buildings which I’m not quite there yet but the main issue is how could I make this pattern of facade parametric to one building next to it. I’ve already built some the main parts of the building and trying to use the contour line as based as well as move some of the line to get the exact or almost facade pattern to the picture, but it seems that’s all my ability can do (for now)
If anyone could suggest some components, step by step or even spare some time to have a look at the file I attached and show me the right way to do it, that would be a load of help, thank you in advance and really really appreciate it!
it might also be that in a given facade, for each horizontal stripe of blinds, it’s always the very same amount of elements of each type, and the list is jittered in a random-ish way
(I say random-ish because, for instance, I can’t see two horizontal -yellow- elements next to each other even looking at the following bigger picture)
That’s a very detailed information, thank you so much! My original plan was to explore how could the facade oriented around the sun direction during the day but I thought it’d be too advanced for the level of skills I have at the moment, hence, I change to the building neightbor’s height instead hahah and plus I’m trying not to use any plugin which I assumed it’d be the case for the sun (I could be wrong as this is my first time using GH and my knowledge is really low).
Do you have recommendations on the script writing process e.g. components or steps that would be useful for this type of facde patterns and orientation?
Doric corner conflict. It has less to do with the amount of sunlight that enters the room, as much as how to get the facade to look similar in both elevation views.
Alot of work has gone into convincing you the facade has some system in it, and then purposely subverts it. The only real consistency I can see is that at the start of every horizontal segment, there comes a vertical element. This vertical element does not necessarily have to be oriented with the small side facing out, but it always starts with an element. Then within each section there are 3 to 5, usually 4 vertical members.
Also, in case it isn’t obvious, the verticals come in multiples of a base unit height, which is determined by the ceramic tiles. So height of 1, 2, or 3.
Wow! that’s a new word I just learned and incredibly a lot more details than I could ever thought about this building, thank you so so much, I really appricate it! For now I’m just trying to work on this for assignment and don’t think I’d go that far of the details (yet). Could you please give me some advices on the GH parts? I’m really struggling with trying to make the (almost) random pattern of the facade.
The height different I made in GH file is based on the floor level that I made from contour lines (I thought it would be the best idea as I’m trying to make it parametric so if the floor increase the level of the louvers also increase). However, I’m stuck at making facade pattern to be developed into patametric based on the surrounding building(s) as my skill and knowledge is really limited
Sure. This is actually a great beginner GH project, because it doesn’t involve alot of shapey shapey. Looking at it closely, it would seem there are 6 main axis to a horizontal segment. From these, up to a maximum of 2 are randomly omitted. Then the vertical tiles are turned randomly from 0 to 45 to 90 degrees.
How basic is your Grasshopper knowledge. Can you do anything? None of what I’ve written about has to do with sunlight or environment what so ever. But it can be parametracized.
Unfortunately very basic, I just learned everything from scarcth about grasshopper just a month or 2 ago. I’m able to construct a basic geometry and all but to make them parametric is really difficult. I tried every possible ways I could think of to make the louvers rotatable but fell for a few times to the point I almost gave up.
My goal right now is just to start with how the louvers/blinds would be oriented in different degree based on the height or location of the building next to it (which is already super difficult to me), if you don’t mind, here’s what I can do for the building so far (the panel I stated “louvers/fins” is my attempt in making the facade). I know other parts I built is not precise yet but that’s all I can do to be deveoped further for now. a2.gh (80.6 KB)
