Noob Question: Struggling to use Sweep2 to create Name Ring

Not new to 3D CAD, but brand new to Rhino. Feeling a little overwhelmed, but doing my best to keep up.

I am attempting to create a name ring exactly as the OP describes in this reply. The name itself should be flat, and the upper part of the shank should take on the form of the first and last letters of the name itself. The method below shows almost exactly the result I’m trying to achieve.

The issue I’m having is that the Sweep2 doesn’t seem to “stop” at the top of the name. Instead, it goes above the name, loops back and sweeps back down into the shank. Can anyone clarify how to use Sweep2 in this situation? The closest 3D CAD functions I’ve used in the past worked completely differently.

To be clear, I am looking for the shank to sweep straight up and follow the shape of the first and last letters only at the top of the shank, not for the entire length of the shank as shown in the Rhino screenshot.

Post a .3dm file with the input geometry you are using. You can drag the file into where you type a post, or click on the vertical arrow icon above where you type a post.

My guess is this has something to do with the arrangement or structure of your curves.

Sometimes experience with other 3D CAD software slows down initial progress with Rhino due to assumptions that Rhino works the same.

Great tip. I’ll be sure to keep an open mind.

I’ve attached the .3dm file. It looks right to me, but I can’t even get the Sweep2 to initiate anymore. I appreciate any help you can provide.
