New UI, Keyboard shortcuts no + button

Starting fresh on a new Mac, I’m facing the inevitable dreaded UI customization.

Thought I’ll start with the simplest task: assigning hotkeys [ need to do about 30+ of these to assign commands to physical buttons on 3Dconnextion and Wacom devices]

The keyboard shortcut list tab has no Plus [+] to add new key combinations…?

How then, do one a add new keys combination in the WIP?

I don’t want to use the “free” regular 2-3 keys shortcuts for the physical buttons, May of them are in fact already taken by the OS, and the remaining few I’d like to leave for keyboard use. Normally I’d use a 4 keys combination for a physical button, [they only need to be pressed twice for the configuration and there’s no need to remember them. additionally they are unlikely to conflict with keyboard use]

in addition, using the F keys in combination for the buttons seems to only work if I change the pref. in system setting… which I rather not.
in Rhino 7 there was a plus [+] button, and configuring buttons on devices worked ok.

thanks a lot

I think you just need to click in the field and type out your command/macro?

Thank you,

I think this much is quite clear, but it’s not really my question…

Ah, gotcha. Not enough coffee yet this morning.

Luckily it’s night time here, [and plenty of coffee]

I’m guessing the place to add new keys combination is somewhere else… [and after these are added over in that [yet unknown] location, it will show up in the keyboard list

Hi Wim @wim
Trying to get Rhino WIP customized and ready for work on a new Mac…
Would you please when you have time, let me know where/how to do these Keyboard long-cuts [please see above question] so I can configure the buttons on 3DConnexion [Enterprise] and Wacom.

thanks a lot

Hi Akash -

Background: I’ve never customized Rhino on macOS before testing only some of that in the Rhino 8 WIP.

That said, I’ve read the question several times - and the updated thread - but have no clue what you are asking. I’ll need lots of details here, I suppose. “Long-cuts” sound like “Aliases” but those are in Rhino 7.
Apart from that, when 3dconnexion is mentioned, I stop reading.

Hi @wim Does this help to make my unclear request clearer…?
To add an option for adding additional [longer] key combination

thanks a lot

in the former version of Rhino you could customise commands

where you could make your own commands and configure them to a hotkey/shortcut as wished, different to now where one has to select one predefined shortcut from a short list as @Akash showed, with no option to create your own command.

that makes it impossible customise Rhino properly. also why has that been split up so strange, it was pretty good before? i highly dislike that and dont see any added value other than making it worse…

i can see a few topics including me targeting this problem.

here one for instance Customizable Shortcuts in Rhino 8

just wanted to add to the issue of keyboard short cuts

Looking at that available list in the rhino keyboard setting: it looks like there are many free combinations…
But in reality some are taken by the MacOS, other are not available on a MacBook keyboard [only available on a desktop keyboard] and then all the combo with ALT does not work!!!. because I imagine Mac call these keys option.

So perhaps 50% are unavailable to start with.

And I really would have loved to leave the easy to remember/press, combination available for direct keyboard use… But instead I now have no choice but to map these precious combinations to the physical keys [on the 3DConnexion device] where I would be happy to map some “impossible” 4 or 5 keys combination that would never be used otherwise

Please Dear Devs, add a + button
And please change the ALT to Option

thanks a lot
