In the latest rhino 7, I’m wondering if it’s possible to prevent newly created layers/geometry from appearing in all details automatically?
Often, I have large layouts with many details, and I need to create new geometry. However, doing this on a new layer seems to automatically add it to all other layouts with custom layer on/off settings.
Not in Rhino 7, no.
In Rhino 8, you can set a layer to not appear in new details and there are controls to turn off or on specific layers in all details.

I’ve reorganized the order of columns in my Layers panel to get easier access to both the Model On lightbulb and the New Detail On button. Turning off the latter will make it so that the layer does not appear in new details.
I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding something, but is there a solution for the following.
I have 3 layouts created. I add a new one, add a new layer, turn off the ‘new layer on’ option for that layer, then create geometry on that layer. What I want is for that new geometry Not to appear on the previously created details.
Unless I’m understanding this wrong, it seems that the only way to turn off that ‘new layer geometry’ is to click individually into each detail, and turn check off the ‘layout on’ bulb.
If I highlight all the three original details in the layout view without double clicking them, and then check off the Layout On option, they still don’t hide that new geometry.
I apologise if this is confusing.
The only solution I have is to create all geometry in the model space first, and then create the details at the very end before export. But this is a hindrance
Thank you for your reply that does help a fair bit. I can select all layouts, right click on the ‘layout on’ bulb of all those selected layers, and turn them off for all details. I wish this were possible in Rhino 7 as well.
