Looks like the issues logged in RH-82108 were finally fixed but another bug spawned from it.
When you have multiple custom material component in your code, as soon as you turn off the preview from one geometry (hide it), it immediately removes the ground and object shadows of the other geometries. Disabling all the other custom preview nodes “fixes” the problem.
To reproduce the bug, just right click and turn off the preview from Geometry C´s custom preview component and see the ground and object shadows of geometry A and B disappear.
Affected display modes: Artistic, Arctic, Monochrome and Rendered.
there is one thing to say, it happened to me pretty often… the order on which things get previewed looks like also depending on the order that components were added to the canvas?
In many case I was able to bring to front previews from GH components by just CTRL+X CTRL+V

@jeff it looks like RH-82108 Display: Custom Preview and Create Material cause display issues is not fixed after all - even better (works) in my dujour build of 8.15 in Rendered mode all objects disappear apart from a couple of curves?
